What inspired you to join the construction and property industry?
During High school, I was placed with a Civil Engineering firm for our “World of Work” week. From the moment I set foot through the firm’s door and for the remainder of the week I was captivated by the “work” that was being done. I was truly surprised by the scale of the industry and the nature of the job, which entails the constant meeting or interactions with different individuals from all walks of life. Every person on any given project worked together collaboratively to deliver a common goal. The energy I felt from the industry in those five days was exhilarating. This had such an impact on me and how the nature of office and site work merged seamlessly and the project on paper became tangible/visual.
What is your favourite building and why?
This may sound strange, but my favourite building is in actual fact a Waste Water Treatment Plant located in the small farming town of Delareyville, South Africa. It was the first project I worked on during my practical year of studies and was where I developed a love for concrete and formwork and a great appreciation for the enormous amount of thought and planning that goes behind forming shapes and structures with in situ concrete.
