About/Net Zero Carbon
There is no industry-wide certification for Net Zero Carbon, and we typically see different focuses reflecting the sustainability aspirations of our different Clients. However, there are a number of common themes, ranging from maximising the re-use of existing buildings, through to utilising the latest SMART technology to create buildings that self-optimise heating and cooling. Our experience and intelligence allows us to advise, manage and mitigate costs for schemes that meet each Client’s sustainability goals.
To date a lot of the industry’s focus has been on minimising the carbon running cost once the scheme is in operation, known as Operational Carbon. Here the scheme’s Engineering Services strategy is key. Our Engineering Services specialist team are experts in advising on and mitigating the potential construction costs around this. As the National Grid becomes increasingly carbon-neutral the upfront carbon cost of the scheme, known as Embodied Carbon, is starting to represent a greater proportion of overall emissions. As well as being experts in costing the implications of measures to manage and reduce Embodied Carbon we can also now offer ECO. ECO looks at both cost and Embodied Carbon together as one joined up view. We believe this is a unique offer in the industry offering unrivalled insights. Click to find out more about ECO.
Finally, we also “walk the walk” ourselves. We at Core Five have been operating as a Net Zero Carbon firm since 2019, following a rigorous assessment of our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. Typically, many consultants exclude Scope 3 emissions, however typically this is where over 75% of the emissions sit and so must be considered for a true picture.
