Congratulations to Lucy Manley, our Finance Assistant, who after tackling 13 exams has recently become ACCA qualified! Here is what she had to say about her journey to chartership:
After leaving college, I started an apprenticeship in accounting and began my AAT studies. I worked in various industries within the accounting and finance departments before joining Core Five in 2019. Shortly after my arrival I began my studies for ACCA and qualified in April 2023!
What was the biggest challenge you faced during your ACCA and how did you overcome it?
My biggest challenge was to stay focused and determined. The ACCA qualification consists of 13 exams, each of them requiring a lot of work beforehand, so trying to fit in the study, my normal working day, and some semblance of a social life, required lots of preparation and planning.
What support did you benefit from during your ACCA preparation?
My friends and family supported me by providing much needed respite between exams. Ria, my Line Manager, also gave me more time to focus on my studies by helping me manage my workload and offering support and advice when I needed it.
What advice would you give to others starting out or in the process of undertaking their ACCA?
There is a lot of information to learn for each exam so you should always plan and give yourself as much time as possible to prepare.
Is there anything you would do differently if you had to do the process again?
I wouldn’t put too much pressure on myself and would try to enjoy the process more!
What did you do do celebrate your new chartership?
I had a nice meal with my family and had a holiday with my friends!
