Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration

London / House of Illustration / Tim Ronalds Architects / 1,000 sqm

The Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration is the conversion of an old boiler house in Islington, built in the 17th Century for pumping water to the City of London, into a Museum for illustrative art.

Key Project Features

  • Conversion of an important historic industrial building
  • Site is crossed by High Pressure Thames Water mains adding to the complexity
  • Quentin Blake, the Client, is a noted illustrator of children’s books (Roald Dahl, Michael Rosen)

Core Five Added Value

  • Core Five have been involved since RIBA Stage 2. Turning this underused building into a world leading centre for this genre of Art. This was only made possible by our extensive knowledge of the cost of refurbishing existing buildings
