Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration

London / House of Illustration / Tim Ronalds Architects / 1,000 sqm

A 17th-century boiler and pump house in Islington, originally built to supply water to the City of London, is being transformed into a Museum for Illustrative Art.

Key Project Features

  • Conversion of an important historic industrial building
  • Site is crossed by High Pressure Thames Water mains adding to the complexity
  • Quentin Blake, the Client, is a noted illustrator of children’s books (Roald Dahl, Michael Rosen)

Core Five Added Value

  • Core Five have been involved since RIBA Stage 2, turning this underused building into a world leading centre for this genre of Art. This was only made possible by our extensive knowledge of the cost of refurbishing existing buildings
  • Assisted the Client in making a National Lottery Heritage Fund application
